Security Seals

A security seal is a numbered mechanical device which is used to seal a container or in this case a furniture van.

It allows the person who placed the security seal to ascertain that the sealed unit has not been opened in transit without their knowledge. This is done by checking the security seal number is the same at both your new home and your old residence and that the seal is still intact.

Unlike a padlock the security seal can be broken in cases of emergency or broken by somebody acting as your agent without them using a key. You should not use padlocks as these can only be removed with a key. If the key is lost or delayed in transit then this may result in you having to pay extra charges to your removalist or having to buy a boltcutter.

Security seals are in wide use in commercial transport (you can easily observe this as you drive down a freeway) but not in the furniture removal industry. Three seals of the type pictured below are automatically supplied to all subscribers of astute moving.com and sent to the address listed in their contact details.

2. Then push the two ends of the security seal into each other until you feel the locking mechanism engage.

3. The door can not be opened without breaking the security seal. The seal can be broken by using moderate force to pull the two ends apart.
